Your tasks
We are looking for research assistants excited to do their PhD at the intersection of HCI, geoinformatics, and Ubicomp technologies with strong technical skills. The position offers excellent opportunities to conduct independent and blue-sky PhD research in a vibrant research environment. We offer collaboration with other members of the HCI group and other research groups within the school of computer science and beyond. The successful candidate will be working with a dynamic, friendly, and helpful team of computer science researchers.
Your profile
We love to work with students with strong technical skills and backgrounds across disciplines. Candidates should have an excellent Master's degree or equivalent in computer science or related fields such as mathematics, physics, etc. Required skills are solid experience in (mobile) software development (Android, iOS) and an excellent command of English (reading/writing/speaking). Besides, the candidate needs solid experiences with the development and evaluation of navigation apps on Android / iOS, as well as experience in the sound design of the multimedia application (e.g. VR applications in Unity or Unreal). Ideally, you have specialized in HCI topics and already have good knowledge of conducting experiments in HCI. Also, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, passionate about their work, and have the ability to work independently and in a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
The research group for human-computer interaction (HCI) at the University of St. Gallen will be established by autumn semester 2021, and it is led by Prof. Dr. Johannes Schöning. With our research, we want to empower individuals and communities with the information they need to make better data-driven decisions by developing novel user interfaces. Our research mission is to fit human and technological needs and empower users when using novel interfaces. This includes the development and evaluation of wearable technologies, mobile augmented reality and virtual reality applications, interactive surfaces, and other "post desktop" interfaces.
