As one of Switzerland’s largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW has over 13,000 students.
The School of Applied Linguistics, located in Winterthur, is the only dedicated linguistics school in a Swiss university of applied sciences. The school focuses on central issues in the areas of languages, communication and media – bringing a wide range of practical and scientific skills and experience to bear in its academic programmes (BA, MA and continuing education), research & development and consultancy.
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (IUED) is the ZHAW competence centre for multilingualism and language mediation. It offers a specialisation in professional translation within the MA degree in Applied Linguistics as well as a BA in Applied Languages with specialisations in multilingual, multimodal and technical communication.
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting invites applications for a part-time post (30%) in the English Section, starting 1 February 2021. Translation Lecturer in English / Translator – part-time (30%)

The position involves some internal translation work (German – English) and approximately 8 hours of teaching per week primarily in the following disciplines:
- Written (non-literary) General Translation (German – English)
- Specialized Translation in Business, Law, Science +/or Technology (German – English)
- Sight Translation (German – English)
You are a native English-speaker with very good working knowledge of German. You possess a post-graduate degree in Translation Studies, Modern Languages, and/or Applied Linguistics and have professional translation experience as well as relevant experience of teaching in an academic environment. A teaching qualification, experience in traditional and digital course design and development and an interest in relevant empirical research would be distinct advantages. In addition, knowledge of an additional Swiss language (i.e. French or Italian) would be an asset. You are flexible, have good people skills and are able to work both independently and as part of a team.
